Bio
Singer songwriter goldfiishie is a Filipina-Chinese island girl and independent artist. Through glittering synths, textured vocal harmonies, and playfully honest lyricism, she enjoys blending pop to create music that resonates and reveals universal human emotions. From R&B and early 2010’s teen pop to dark electro, video game soundtracks and classical strings, her inspiration comes from places as infinite as the ocean.
Born and raised in the Philippines, music was always so important to goldfiishie as a family pastime and source of joy + connection with others. She discovered her love of song and performance as a child when she was first handed a mic at karaoke. Her parents further fed the flame by enrolling her in theater and piano lessons, and her passion for music continued in high school and college through choir.
goldfiishie spent 7 years in Chicago for university and work, and attributes much of her artistic development from the creative freedom and inspiration she drew from the city and its people. After consistently passing by a recording studio on her daily commute, she thought there was no better time than now to complete her first body of work, Our Own Universe. The whole EP was entirely self-written and self-produced. With the help of friends, she was able to organize shows in Chicago and New York featuring local artists before moving back to Metro Manila in 2019.
A thriving music scene in the Philippines compelled goldfiishie to return home. But after 6 months, the country was thrown into the strictest lockdown in the world. Isolated from the underground music ecosystem she was so excited to participate in, goldfiishie threw herself into the comfort of singing and songwriting, and took to building connections with artists online. After two years of cultivating inspiration comes goldfiishie’s sophomore EP, Only 10pm. Co-created with talented artists from Brooklyn, Portland, and Metro Manila, the EP embodies a zest for life and joy in a time when we need it most.
Influenced by artists such as Alina Baraz, Rina Sawayama, Sabrina Claudio, and Jhene Aiko, goldfiishie is fascinated with the intersection of the digital and analog, melding synthetic and natural sounds in a balance all her own. She loves when art holds two opposing truths at the same time - light darkness, happy sadness, a quick slowness. She believes this interest in juxtaposing ideas in conflict comes from her upbringing in a tropical cosmopolitan city, holding both metro and island as a core parts of her identity. She hopes her work can bring fuzzy, tangible feels and smiles to humans of all walks of life, and that she continues to use art to build and strengthen community.
